Steve Bing, 55, the multimillionaire filmmaker and Hollywood financier who once dated model and actress Liz Hurley, jumped to his death from the 27th floor of his Los Angeles apartment block amid a battle with depression.

According to Deadline, Bing (worth around $590million at the time of his death) jumped from a Century City building at around 1pm on Monday.

He reportedly had been struggling with mental health issues and had felt particularly isolated due to the Covid-19 inspired stay at home orders.

Bing’s screenwriting credits including co-writing the 2003 feature film Kangaroo Jack. His executive producer credits include Get Carter (2000), Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World (2005), Youth in Revolt (2009) and Rock the Kasbah (2015).

Bing has an 18-year-old son, Damian, with Liz Hurley, who he dated in 2001. He is also survived by daughter Kira Bonder, who he had with former pro tennis star Lisa Bonder.

Hurley said she was ‘saddened beyond belief’ at the news of his suicide, at the luxurious Ten Thousand Building at 1pm on Monday, calling it a ‘terrible end’.

Bing inherited $600 million from his grandfather, a real estate developer, when he was 18 and dropped out of Stanford University to break into Hollywood.

Variety reported that Bing invested about $80 million into 2004’s The Polar Express, and he also contributed large sums to Democratic causes. Daily Mast
