Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing a much harsher prison experience after reportedly being placed in solitary confinement following a violent altercation with another inmate.
The music mogul is currently being held at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, where prison officials moved him to the Special Housing Unit, commonly known as “the hole,” after the incident.
According to the facility’s inmate handbook, prisoners placed in disciplinary segregation lose a number of privileges while serving their time in isolation. Depending on the outcome of disciplinary proceedings, inmates may also have personal belongings removed.
Although conditions are far more restrictive than those in the general prison population, inmates in solitary are still provided with basic necessities, including a mattress, blankets, a pillow, toilet paper and shaving supplies.
They are also allowed to keep legal documents, reading materials and religious books while confined.
One surprising detail is that inmates housed in solitary receive daily visits from a medical professional, including weekends and public holidays, to monitor their wellbeing.
Diddy may also continue receiving one social visit each week in the prison’s visiting room, provided he remains eligible under Bureau of Prisons rules.
Prison officials are also required to keep inmates informed about their housing status and explain the disciplinary process, including any possible sanctions they could face as a result of rule violations.
Those penalties can range from the loss of privileges to the forfeiture of good conduct time, depending on the seriousness of the offense.
It remains unclear how long Diddy will stay in solitary confinement, but life inside “the hole” comes with far fewer freedoms than the general prison population, making the adjustment especially difficult.
