Taylor Swift has revealed that writing an original song for Toy Story 5 fulfilled a dream she has carried since childhood.
The singer announced that she wrote and recorded I Knew It, I Knew You for Disney and Pixar’s upcoming sequel, telling fans that she has adored the franchise since she was five years old.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Swift said the opportunity was deeply personal.
“It’s a Toy Story,” she wrote.
She explained that she fell in love with the new film after being invited to see an early version and immediately felt inspired to create music for the project.
“I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5-year-old kid watching the first Toy Story movie,” Swift said.
The Grammy-winning artist later revealed that the song was inspired by Jessie the cowgirl, one of the franchise’s most beloved characters.
“Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time,” Swift wrote after the track was released. “Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once.”
Swift thanked Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton for inviting her into the project and paid tribute to legendary composer Randy Newman, whose music has been synonymous with the franchise since the original film debuted in 1995.
She also praised longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, saying the pair approached the song with affection for characters that shaped their childhoods.
“We wrote this with so much adoration for these characters that made us laugh and helped us learn lessons and think outside the backyard all throughout our childhoods,” she said.
The announcement comes after months of speculation among fans. Swifties began searching for clues earlier this year after a series of social media posts and visual references appeared to hint at a connection between the singer and the Pixar franchise.
Toy Story 5 reunites Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the rest of the gang for a new adventure when it arrives in cinemas on June 19.
For Swift, however, the project is about more than a new song. It is the chance to leave her mark on a story she has loved for most of her life.
