Hollywood stars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have made a rare public appearance together, stepping out for a family dinner in Malibu amid ongoing speculation about the status of their unconventional marriage.
The couple were photographed arriving at celebrity-favourite restaurant Nobu Malibu on Tuesday, marking their first public outing together in several months.
Joining them for the dinner were their son Jaden Smith, Will’s eldest son Trey Smith from his previous marriage to Sheree Zampino, and Will’s mother, Caroline Bright.
According to photographs published by entertainment media outlets, the pair arrived separately but departed together in the same vehicle after the family gathering.
Pinkett Smith opted for a stylish all-black ensemble featuring a long jacket, black top, Louis Vuitton jeans and a head wrap, while Will kept things casual in grey sweatpants, a white T-shirt and trainers, carrying a red bomber jacket.
The appearance comes after the pair were last publicly photographed together in January while attending Paris Fashion Week in support of their son Jaden, who made his debut as Christian Louboutin’s first men’s creative director.
Their latest outing is likely to reignite public interest in a relationship that has frequently dominated headlines over the past several years.
Will and Jada, who married in 1997, shocked fans in 2023 when the actress revealed they had been living separate lives since 2016 despite remaining legally married.
Speaking during the promotion of her memoir Worthy, Pinkett Smith disclosed that the couple had quietly separated years earlier but had chosen not to formally divorce.
“We’re still figuring it out,” she said at the time. “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together.”
She also explained that despite living separately, the pair remained committed to supporting one another and maintaining their family bond.
The couple’s marriage has endured intense public scrutiny, particularly following Jada’s admission that she had an “entanglement” with singer August Alsina during a period when she and Will were separated.
Will later revealed that their relationship had evolved beyond traditional expectations, describing their marriage as one that allowed both partners greater personal freedom.
Interest in the couple intensified further after the infamous 2022 Academy Awards incident when Will Smith walked onto the stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock after a joke directed at Jada.
Pinkett Smith later said the moment strengthened her commitment to the marriage, despite the challenges they had faced over the years.
Although reports have suggested they continue to maintain separate homes, both have repeatedly emphasised that they remain deeply connected and committed to working through their relationship on their own terms.
Their latest public appearance appears to reinforce that message, with the couple presenting a united front alongside members of their blended family.
