Usher was forced to cut short one of his signature onstage fan moments after a woman appeared uncomfortable during a performance on his co-headlining tour with Chris Brown.
The awkward exchange took place during the Nashville stop of the Raymond & Brown Tour at Nissan Stadium on July 25.
While performing “Can U Handle It?” from his 2004 album Confessions, the R&B superstar invited a female fan onto the stage to take part in his well-known flirtatious routine.
Fan-recorded video shows a shirtless Usher kneeling beside a bed prop as he begins the performance. Although the woman initially participates, her body language appears to change as the moment continues.
Realizing she no longer seemed at ease, Usher immediately stopped the performance.
“I don’t think she want to be on the stage,” he told the crowd with a smile before stepping away.
The singer then removed his in-ear monitors and motioned for the woman to leave the stage, ending the interaction without further incident.
The clip quickly spread across social media, where fans were divided over the woman’s reaction.
Some questioned why she accepted the invitation if she wasn’t comfortable participating, while others praised Usher for recognizing her discomfort and ending the moment instead of pushing ahead.
One viewer commented that the singer handled the situation respectfully, while another joked that the fan may have been hoping to meet Chris Brown instead.
Usher and Chris Brown launched their Raymond & Brown Tour in Denver on June 26, bringing together two of R&B’s biggest hitmakers for a co-headlining stadium tour.
The show features many of Usher’s biggest songs, including “Yeah!,” “Confessions,” “U Remind Me” and “OMG,” while Brown performs fan favorites such as “Run It,” “No Guidance” and “Go Crazy.”
The tour is scheduled to continue across North America through December, with upcoming performances in cities including Toronto, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chicago.
Although the awkward onstage moment briefly interrupted the show, many fans praised Usher for putting the fan’s comfort ahead of the performance.
