Days after announcing they had tested positive for the coronavirus, actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, have provided an update on their diagnosis as they remain in isolation “for the next 10 days” in Australia.
The 63-year-old actor sent his thanks to “the helpers” and urged the world to “take care” as many around the world grapple with how best to deal with the pandemic.
His latest film production, an Elvis Presley biopic, has had to be shut down.
“Thanks to the Helpers,” he wrote. ”Let’s take care of ourselves and each other. Hanx.”

On Sunday he shared a picture of his snack, a toy kangaroo and koala alongside two pieces of toast with Australian spread Vegemite.

“Really must send a big thank you to the doctors and medical experts from Queensland Health, who have given us tremendous support and most importantly, very clear instructions as to how to go about putting our company and the community’s health first.”
“Personally, I’m in isolation for the next 10 days, but wanted to let you guys know that the family and I are healthy and well. We’ll keep you updated!”
Three days ago Hanks wrote: “Hello folks. @ritawilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us.
“We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness.
“We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no? Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx.”
Hanks is the highest-profile celebrity to be diagnosed with coronavirus while Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife also tested positive for fast spreading virus.
In the football world Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea footballer Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for the virus, sparking a suspension of league fixtures.
In American sports Utah Jazz All-Star forward Donovan Mitchell became the second NBA player to test positive for the coronavirus after his teammate, Rudy Gobert.
Former Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini, now at Sampdoria in Italy, also tested positive for coronavirus.
