The long-running rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar continues to generate debate, with media personality DJ Akademiks offering his interpretation of a new lyric from Drake’s latest project, ICEMAN.

During a recent livestream, Akademiks suggested that a line from Drake’s track “National Treasures” was aimed directly at Kendrick Lamar and referenced police activity around Drake’s Toronto mansion during Kendrick’s visit to the city last year.

The lyric in question appears in the second half of the song, where Drake raps: “Boy gotta dip out the 6ix, run out the 6ix, just like you did / Why was TPS at my crib until you boys slid? It is what it is.”

According to Akademiks, the mention of TPS — widely understood to refer to the Toronto Police Service — may be connected to Kendrick’s stop in Toronto during his highly publicized Grand National Tour alongside SZA.

He claimed there had been reports circulating that police officers were stationed outside Drake’s residence while Kendrick was in the city.

Akademiks speculated that Drake’s lyric could be mocking Kendrick for allegedly relying on heightened security measures during his Toronto appearances. However, he acknowledged that the interpretation was based on rumours and discussion within local circles rather than confirmed information.

Videos showing police vehicles near Drake’s mansion, known as The Embassy, circulated online around the time Kendrick performed two sold-out shows at Toronto’s Rogers Centre in June last year. Separate footage also surfaced showing significant security and police escorts accompanying Kendrick’s movements in the city.

Despite the attention generated by the lyric, neither Drake nor Kendrick has publicly clarified its meaning. As a result, fans continue to debate whether the bar was intended as a direct shot at the Compton rapper or referenced a broader situation.

While the musical battle between the two artists has largely cooled compared to the explosive exchanges of 2024, the feud continues to cast a shadow over their respective careers. Drake has revisited the rivalry throughout the ICEMAN era, while Kendrick has remained relatively quiet on the matter.

Beyond the music, the dispute remains active in the legal arena. Drake and his legal team are continuing efforts to challenge the dismissal of aspects of his defamation-related legal action connected to Kendrick Lamar’s hit diss track, “Not Like Us.”

For now, fans are left dissecting every lyric and public appearance as one of hip-hop’s most talked-about rivalries continues to evolve.
