Former NBA star Paul Pierce says the end of his Fox Sports payments has made it difficult for him to keep up with his financial obligations, according to court documents filed in his ongoing dispute with former partner Princess Santiago.
Pierce says his last Fox Sports cheque arrived in August. He had previously received an average of about $119,000 a month from the network, while earning around $23,000 from business partnerships in the most recent month covered by his filing.
His lawyer describes him as “drowning financially” and argues he would struggle to pay Santiago’s latest request for additional legal and accounting costs.
Pierce opposes request for more legal fees
Santiago is seeking $40,000 in additional legal fees and $10,000 for a forensic accountant to review Pierce’s finances. She has argued that his financial records are incomplete.
Pierce’s filing asks the court to reject the request. He says he has about $300,000 in bank accounts and $3 million in property. He also reports paying around $28,000 a month in child support and $20,000 in spousal support, alongside household expenses he estimates at about $48,000 a month.
The figures are Pierce’s own financial disclosures in the case. His reported property holdings are assets, though they are not the same as cash available to pay monthly bills.
Earlier court orders remain in place
Pierce and Santiago share a son, King. A judge previously ordered Pierce to pay $8,508 a month in temporary child support and contribute $100,000 towards Santiago’s legal fees. The court also ordered $10,000 for a forensic accountant.
The latest request for further fees has not yet been decided. Santiago’s claims about missing financial information and Pierce’s account of his income and expenses remain part of the ongoing case.
