Clarkson, 66, told his Clarkson’s Farm co-stars Kaleb Cooper and Charlie Ireland that doctors had discovered an aggressive form of prostate cancer, although it was caught at an early stage.

“I’ve got cancer,” Clarkson said during discussions about the farm’s future and harvest planning.

The television personality explained that he learned about the diagnosis in May and was optimistic about his chances of recovery.

Describing the cancer as “aggressive” but detected early, Clarkson told his colleagues he expected to be “fine” but would likely be unable to work for a period while undergoing treatment.

Later in the series, Clarkson revealed that he had undergone surgery to remove part of his prostate.

“I won’t know whether it’s worked or not until November probably,” he said. “The prostate, 10% of it’s dead, the 10% where the cancer is.”

Viewers also saw Clarkson in hospital following complications during treatment.

At one point, he admitted that “some of the treatment has gone awry” and said he was uncertain about what would happen next.

“I’m going to be here for a little while,” he said from his hospital bed.

In one of the most emotional moments of the season, Clarkson reflected on the uncertainty surrounding his future.

“We started season five with me in a hospital bed and here we are at the end of season five and I’m back in a hospital bed,” he said.

“If this is all successful, I’ll see you for season six. And if it isn’t, I won’t. Take care, everyone.”

Before the episodes were released, Clarkson had already warned fans that the latest instalments of the hit farming series would be far more serious than usual.

“Sombre news,” he wrote on Instagram. “Ordinarily we try to keep the show bucolic and charming, and cheerful, but two episodes which drop in the middle of the night tonight are none of those things.”

The diagnosis comes two years after Clarkson underwent a heart procedure following what he described as a sudden deterioration in his health.

Writing previously about the ordeal, he said doctors believed he may have been only days away from becoming seriously ill due to blocked arteries.

The presenter later revealed he had been advised to make major lifestyle changes, including lowering his cholesterol levels and reducing some of his workload.

Following the announcement, Prostate Cancer UK praised Clarkson for speaking publicly about his diagnosis.

The charity said his decision to share his experience could help raise awareness about the disease and encourage more men to seek testing and treatment earlier.

Clarkson became a household name through Top Gear before moving to Amazon’s The Grand Tour and later hosting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

In recent years, he has found a new audience through Clarkson’s Farm, which follows the challenges of running his Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire. The show has become one of Amazon’s biggest hits and transformed Clarkson into one of Britain’s most prominent voices on farming issues.

For now, fans will be hoping the outspoken presenter receives good news when doctors assess the success of his treatment later this year.
