Singer Mary J Blige has confirmed that she has found new love, four years after her tumultuous divorce from husband of 15 years Kendu Isaacs.
The couple’s marriage ended due to irreconcilable differences, with Blige accusing Issacs of infidelity with her former protégée Starshell and of allegedly stealing from her.
The divorce, which was finalised in 2018, led Blige to near financial ruin as she had to pay $30000 per month in alimony after he originally asked for $129,319 to maintain his lifestyle and cover legal fees.
In an interview with Big Tigger, Blige confirmed that she was no longer single.
“No, I’m not single. I’m happily doing what I’m doing,” she said. Blige remained tight-lipped about the identity of the new man in her life.
She however, acknowledged that her love life had influenced her latest single, Still Believe in Love.
“I needed something different, something positive other than what was going on in my life,” she explained.
“I had to believe in myself […] I say ‘no matter what happens, I’m never gonna give up on me.’ And the timing, the climate for the song was just perfect for right now,” she said.
Last year, Blige said she decided to end her union to Isaacs because of the toxic nature of the relationship.
“I had to choose myself and find love for myself. That was before I was in a really bad situation,” the Power: Ghost star recalled.
“I was married and I was going through it, and I had to choose Mary. I had to choose Mary and find the love for myself. That’s really it.
“That’s why I’m even here able to tell this story like this because I chose the real love for myself. And now I can see what love is.”
