An official public viewing has been set for legendary actress Cicely Tyson, who died last week at the age of 96, her family has announced.

The 96-year-old “How to get away with murder’ star died on 28 January. Her family has revealed that her fans in New York will be able to pay their last respects to the actress on 15 February.

Meanwhile Tyson will be lying in repose at Abyssinian Baptist Church, 132 Odell Clark Palace, with the walk-by taking place between 10am and 6pm.

The actress’s ‘peaceful’ passing was confirmed last week in a statement.

“With heavy heart, the family of Miss Cicely Tyson announces her peaceful transition this afternoon. At this time, please allow the family some privacy,” read the statement.

Tributes to the actress have been pouring in since the day of her death, including from the likes of former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.

“In her extraordinary career, Cicely Tyson was one of the rare award-winning actors whose work on the screen was surpassed only by what she was able to accomplish off it.

“She had a heart unlike any other and for 96 years, she left a mark on the world that few will ever match.”

Michelle Obama also took to her Instagram and said, “What struck me every time I spent time with Cicely Tyson was not necessarily her star power- thou that was evident enough- it was her humanity.”
