Tyler Perry has reportedly purchased a sprawling $30 million mansion in Puerto Rico as he prepares to expand his film and television operations to the Caribbean island.
The filmmaker and media mogul recently completed the purchase of the 14,475-square-foot property, according to TMZ.
Built in 2021, the mansion stands on nearly 1.4 acres inside a gated community. It contains five bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, along with a private cinema, gym, swimming pool and open-plan kitchen.
Perry is also reportedly planning to establish a production office in Puerto Rico and shoot future television projects on the island.
Tyler Perry Studios staying in Atlanta
The expansion does not mean Perry is abandoning his famous Atlanta production complex.
Tyler Perry Studios, which occupies hundreds of acres on the site of the former Fort McPherson military base, will remain operational. The facility contains multiple soundstages and elaborate permanent sets, including a replica of the White House and a neighbourhood built for Perry’s Madea franchise.
More than 200 film and television productions have reportedly used the Atlanta complex since Perry purchased the land in 2015.
The Puerto Rico operation is instead expected to provide the billionaire filmmaker with another base for developing and filming projects.
Perry prepares for Puerto Rico move
The mansion purchase comes after Perry revealed plans to relocate to Puerto Rico with his son, Aman.
He recently placed his Beverly Hills estate on the market for $57 million. The approximately 24,500-square-foot California mansion, which once accommodated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, sits on more than 22 acres.
Perry is reportedly seeking a slower lifestyle that will allow him to spend more time with his son while continuing to develop entertainment projects.
Puerto Rico has attracted several wealthy entertainers and online personalities in recent years. Logan Paul and Jake Paul are among the prominent figures who have established homes on the island.
With a private cinema inside his new mansion and a production office reportedly in development, Madea could soon be heading to Puerto Rico too.
