Kanye West’s unlikely bid for the White House might soon come to a crashing halt, with the state of Illinois set to decide on whether to remove him from the ballot or not after it emerged that 1,928 signatures out of the 3,128 he submitted were invalid.

Illinois followed the lead set by New Jersey, which struck Kanye off its ballot following similar findings.

West’s team has until August 21 to refute the determination regarding the invalid signatures before the Illinois State Board of Elections members vote to make the final decision.

While no official charges of voter-registration fraud have been filed against West or his campaign as of now, commentator April Ryan said this might be the case in future.

“Two states declaring #KanyeWest ineligible to be on #POTUS ballot due to faulty signatures could open him up to an #ElectionFraud investigation,” she expressed on Twitter.

The allegations come in the wake of reports that West’s campaign has been aided by known Republican Party operatives, including Mark Jacoby, who was arrested on voter-fraud charges and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor while working for the California Republican Party in 2008.
