Jailed rapist Harvey Weinstein was one of two inmates to test positive for coronavirus in New York’s Wende Correctional Facility, according to reports.
Wende Correctional Facility near Buffalo is six hours by car from Manhattan.
The disgraced 68-year-old producer—who was hospitalized earlier this month for chest pains—is reportedly being isolated at the maximum-security prison.
According to officials quoted in multiple reports, Weinstein was likely carrying the virus when he was transferred from the notorious Rikers Island prison last Wednesday.
News of Weinstein’s diagnosis comes as at least 38 people have tested positive for coronavirus inside New York City jails.
Some are already appealing to authorities to free people who are particularly vulnerable to covid-19, including the elderly.
Weinstein is currently serving a 23-year sentence for rape and sexual assault.
The Hollywood mogul was convicted of raping an aspiring actress in 2013 and forcibly performing oral sex on a TV and film production assistant in 2006.
