Presley Gerber suffered cardiac arrest shortly before he was pronounced dead at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, California, according to newly reported emergency dispatch recordings.
The 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber was found unresponsive at the luxury facility on Sunday, 20 September 2026. Police are investigating his death as a suspected drug overdose, although the official cause remains undetermined.
People reported that dispatch recordings showed a cardiac-arrest call was made from the facility at 9.35am. A separate alert sent first responders to an apparent overdose at the same address.
Gerber pronounced dead within minutes
Santa Monica police officers attempted life-saving measures after finding Gerber unresponsive, TMZ previously reported.
He was pronounced dead at 9.45am, just 10 minutes after the initial emergency call.
Police do not suspect foul play and are investigating the circumstances as a possible drug overdose.
Sources with direct knowledge told TMZ that Gerber had been living in a separate house on the rehabilitation facility’s grounds with several other people. The family was reportedly informed that his death appeared to have resulted from an overdose.
However, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not officially linked Gerber’s death to an overdose or identified any substance that may have been involved.
An autopsy has been completed, but the official cause of death was deferred pending further investigation.
Family asks for privacy
A representative for Crawford, Rande Gerber and their daughter, model Kaia Gerber, said the family was seeking privacy during this “very difficult and painful time”.
Gerber had spoken publicly about his struggles with depression, addiction and the pressures of growing up in the public eye.
During a 2023 appearance on the Studio 22 podcast, he discussed his mental-health experiences and his desire to support others facing similar difficulties.
“Whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place … that’s all I need to do,” he said.
He also ran an Instagram series called “Mental Health Mondays”, through which he discussed depression and addiction.
Ibogaine treatment before his death
In March 2026, Gerber posted a video showing him preparing to receive what he called a “pre-ibogaine flood dose” in Cancún, Mexico.
He said he had been terrified before undergoing the treatment but hoped it would help him find his way back to himself.
Three months later, Gerber participated in a mental-health event in Malibu. He spoke about reaching a turning point at the age of 23 and described the pressures associated with growing up under public scrutiny.
Gerber said openly discussing what he had experienced had allowed him to feel freer.
His previous legal troubles included a January 2019 arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. He subsequently received three years’ probation and was ordered to complete a DUI programme and two days of community service.
