50 Cent has taken a victory lap after his Netflix documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning secured three nominations at this year’s Emmy Awards, using the milestone to fire back at critics who questioned the project when it was first announced.

The documentary, which explores the sexual misconduct allegations surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs and the rise of his Bad Boy empire, has been nominated for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series, Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program.

The nominations became a talking point on The Breakfast Club, where Charlamagne Tha God, Loren LoRosa and DJ Envy discussed the recognition during a recent episode.

LoRosa acknowledged that the series had arrived at a particularly difficult time for Combs, who is currently facing multiple legal battles.

“To be Diddy, sitting where he’s sitting right now, and then the Emmy nominations come behind this, I’m like, ‘Dang. When it rains, it pours,'” she said.

Charlamagne responded with a tongue-in-cheek remark that quickly ignited discussion online.

“But isn’t that kind of Diddy’s nomination, too? He should get an award,” he joked, suggesting that the subject of the documentary was central to its impact.

LoRosa revealed she had sought comment from Combs’ representatives following the Emmy announcement but received no response.

Charlamagne also defended the quality of the production itself, arguing that opinions about 50 Cent’s involvement should not overshadow the final product.

“Regardless of how you felt about the documentary, whether 50 should’ve done it or whether he shouldn’t have done it, the doc was great. It was very compelling,” he said.

50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, also celebrated the nominations on social media while taking aim at those who had criticised the project before its release.

“Everybody had something to say when I announced itโ€ฆ now the Emmys got something to say too. 3 Emmy nominations for Sean Combs: The Reckoning. You can’t argue with the work,” he wrote.

Released on Netflix in December 2025, the documentary was directed by Alexandria Stapleton and executive produced by 50 Cent through G-Unit Film & Television.

The project traces decades of Combs’ career while examining the allegations that have engulfed the music mogul in recent years. Production was announced by Netflix in September 2024, shortly after Combs was arrested on federal charges including racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. Combs has denied the allegations against him.

Before the documentary was commissioned by Netflix, 50 Cent revealed he had spent months developing the project and said any proceeds would go to alleged victims connected to the case. He also disclosed that he spoke with singer Cassie Ventura and her husband, Alex Fine, during his research, although Ventura declined to participate in the documentary.

Stapleton previously addressed questions about footage appearing to show Combs shortly before his arrest, saying the production team had obtained all material legally and held the necessary rights to use it.

The Emmy nominations have reignited debate over the documentary’s success, with some social media users questioning whether the subject of a documentary should share credit for its achievements, while others argue the recognition belongs solely to the filmmakers.
