Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have earned praise from close friend and celebrity chef José Andrés, who says the couple frequently offer support during global crises without seeking public recognition.
Speaking to People magazine, Andrés revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex often reach out privately when disasters strike, asking how they can help those affected.
The Michelin-starred chef, who partnered with the couple’s Archewell Foundation through his World Central Kitchen nonprofit in 2020, said Harry and Meghan regularly contact him behind the scenes as emergencies unfold.
“They ask, ‘What can we do here and can we help you?'” Andrés said, adding that such gestures often go unnoticed by the public.
“Nobody finds out about those moments and they do it often, all the time,” he explained.
According to Andrés, the couple’s concern for global issues is genuine and not motivated by publicity.
“They are always caring about all the things happening in the world. They don’t have to do that. They sincerely do it because they care,” he said.
The renowned chef also commended Harry and Meghan for balancing public life with family responsibilities while continuing to support charitable causes.
While many high-profile figures might choose a quieter life away from the spotlight, Andrés said the couple remain committed to helping others even when cameras are absent.
“I love that they are there even when nobody’s looking,” he said. “They’re there just making sure that they can also be part of the solution.”
Andrés also highlighted Prince Harry’s April visit to Ukraine, where he met injured civilians and veterans while drawing attention to recovery efforts in the war-torn country.
Away from humanitarian work, Andrés described his friendship with Harry and Meghan as refreshingly ordinary.
“When we see each other or when we have conversations, we talk about life, family, good times, new dishes, new restaurants,” he said.
The chef also offered a glimpse into the couple’s home life with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, revealing that the kitchen serves as the heart of family gatherings.
“They made their kitchen the meeting place like every other family,” Andrés said. “I love how Meghan interacts with her children and food.”
His comments provide a rare look behind the scenes at Harry and Meghan’s private charitable efforts and family life away from royal headlines.
