Lizzo took an unconventional approach to promoting her new album this week, surprising patrons at some of New York City’s most popular LGBTQ+ venues with free drinks, live performances and unexpected appearances.
The singer spent Thursday night making the rounds across Manhattan as she celebrated the release of her latest album, Bitch. While other major entertainment events were taking place across the city, Lizzo was busy connecting directly with fans in Hell’s Kitchen and the West Village.
According to reports, the Grammy-winning star first stopped at Hardware Bar, where she treated everyone in attendance to a round of drinks. She later headed downtown to Pieces Bar and continued the generosity by buying another round for customers there.
Her appearance at Pieces quickly became the highlight of the evening. Lizzo reportedly watched a performance by veteran New York drag entertainer Shequida before joining in on the festivities herself.
Witnesses said the singer performed two songs live and interacted with performers and fans throughout the venue. She also reportedly showered Shequida with cash during the performance, drawing cheers from the crowd.
“Everyone was so excited and surprised to see her,” one attendee told Page Six.
The album promotion didn’t stop inside the bars. Lizzo later shared footage showing her projecting the title and release date of Bitch onto a building in Manhattan’s Soho district.
“My album just dropped and I don’t think a poster is big enough, honey,” she joked in a social media video.
The promotional blitz continued on Friday morning when Lizzo appeared as part of NBC’s Today summer concert series. Later in the day, she attended an album-signing event at Rough Trade in Rockefeller Center.
During the appearance, Lizzo also used her platform to recommend journalist Jeanette Settembre’s debut novel Little Red Flags to fans, describing it as a compelling summer read.
The whirlwind campaign showcased Lizzo’s hands-on approach to promoting her latest project, turning ordinary nights out into memorable experiences for fans across New York City.
