Beyoncé only had 1 other boyfriend before Jay-Z, and he cheated on her too
While Jay-Z’s philandering in his marriage to Beyoncé is well publicized, his cheating was not the first time that the former Destiny’s Child front-woman has been the victim of infidelity.
Lyndall Locke dated the Drunk In Love singer for several years before she eventually hooked up with Jay-Z at the turn of the millennium.
The couple is now estimated to be worth at least over $1 billion.
But before Shawn Carter there was Locke and during their relationship he also did not cover himself in glory.
Locke has spoken about how his infidelity as cost home a woman he regarded as the love of his life.
“Beyonce was the love of my life and I was hers, so losing her is still my biggest regret. She would say to me all the time, ‘I’m afraid to ever live my life without you Lyndall, I want you to be mine for ever’.
“I’ll be honest — it was me that messed everything up and lost her for ever to Jay Z, but I deserved it. Who cheats on a woman as beautiful as Beyonce? Well, I am that man and it’s something that’ll always haunt me.”
The two met in 1993 when Beyonce, then 11, and Lyndall, 13, attended a youth church group in their hometown of Houston, Texas. Fellow Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland was the one who brought the two together.
“From the first time I saw Beyonce I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. She looked like an angel, the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen,” Locke said.
After Destiny’s Child started enjoying success, Locke said, things started going wrong for the childhood sweethearts, with Locke’s actions the main stumbling block.
“The bigger star she became, the more I didn’t think I was good enough. One night, when she was out of town, I went to a bar with friends and ended up sleeping with another woman,” he said.
“Over the course of a few years I cheated on her about five times, but I never told her until after we broke up.”
The two broke up in 2000, with Beyonce getting linked with her future husband thereafter.
“Once she began dating Jay-Z, I knew we were doomed and I could never win her back,” he said.
