Rapper Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj has died in a hit and run accident, police confirmed.
The 64-year-old was walking in Mineola, Long Island, on Friday at around 6:15 p.m when he was struck by a northbound, undescribed, vehicle that left the scene of the accident,” read part of the statement from the Nassau County Police Department.
Maraj was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on Saturday. Police have begun investigations and have requested any witnesses to come forward with information.
Nicki Minaj, born Onika Tanya Maraj is yet to publicly address the death of her father. She has previously described her father as violent towards her mother. In 2010 she revealed that her father once set fire to their house with her mother inside.
“I remember when my mother would let my father be violent to her and she always brings up the story about when I was a little girl and I would stand in front of my mother.
In her 2018 documentary Queen she said, “That’s why some people would describe me as abrasive or bitchy or whatever because I vowed from that age no man would ever abuse me, call me out my name, treat me like that. Then all of a sudden, that was, my life.”
