Actress Gabrielle Union has admitted that she once told a young Steph and Ayesha Curry to break up, as she wanted the then young couple to have fun and felt the likelihood of their relationship working out was slim.
Union who was alongside her husband, former NBA star Dwayne Wade, admitted this in an Instagram live chat with the now much admired couple.
“I was like, ‘You guys, the likelihood of this working out is very low and you should just break up now and have sex with other people,’ ” Union said.
Ayesha added with a laugh: “You looked at me and said, ‘How old are you? OK…’ ”
Ayesha and Stephen, who met as teenagers in a North Carolina church youth group, married in 2011. They share two daughters: Riley, 7, and Ryan, 4, and son Canon, 1.
During the chat Wayde chimed in that both he and his wife had since turned over a new leaf in their lives. “That’s not who we are anymore,” he said.
The Currys got married in 2011 when Stephen was 23, and Ayesha was 22. Their rare example of young and enduring love earned the praise of Union.
“Listen, you guys are unicorns,” Union reflected. “There are very few people that I’ve met who have been consistent. I mean, I’ve known you guys well over a decade.
“There’s a lot of people who talk about faith and there’s a lot of people who talk about moving the culture forward, but something isn’t real somewhere, right?
“And when people are like, ‘Are (Ayesha and Stephen) really – are they real?’ I’m like, ‘Yes, they’re some of the only people that I’ve met who have been consistent..”
