The divorce between reality TV star Kristin Cavallari and former NFL player Jay Cutler is shaping up to be an intense legal battle—and it could get ugly.

With wild rumors and speculation about the the real reasons for their divorce making the rounds, it has emerged the present source of conflict is not the presence of “another woman”, but a fight for the custody of their three children.

After a decade of marriage, Cavallari recently announced that she and former Chicago Bears quarterback Cutler were getting a divorce. The duo that wed in 2013, has three children together: Camden Jack, Jaxon Wyatt and Saylor James.

Sources that spoke to TMZ revealed that Cavallari was upset by that fact that Cutler had filed a motion for divorce first. In his petition Cutler stated: “Husband has always been the available at-home parent and the primary caretaker of the parties minor children.”

This seems to not have gone down well with Cavallari who outlined in her own petition that she was seeking a divorce because of marital misconduct, as well as the fact that Cutler had been an absentee father.

“She denies that Husband has always been the available at home parent and primary caretaker of the parties’ minor children. Wife would show that she has been the primary residential parent …”

Cavallari is asking for primary physical custody and wants Jay to have visitation. He wants joint custody of their 3 kids.

Experts have opined that the couple, that was recently stranded in the Bahamas after the cancellation of flights due to COVID-19, might have felt that this was the opportune time to push through their divorce.

“Most celebrity couples don’t want the attention,” Kelly Frawley, a partner and matrimonial and family attorney at the New York City-based law firm Kasowitz Benson Torres LLP, told Fox News on Monday.

“But here, they chose sort of a conspicuous time when we’re all just looking at our phones and the news all day and we’re looking for something that distracts us,” Frawley, who is not involved in the case, said.

A source told  Us Weekly: ‘The word around Nashville is they really just don’t like each other anymore.

‘They would accuse each other of cheating, but nothing really solid. They are both very stubborn and bump heads a lot and neither backs down.’

The source added: “Kristin and Jay always seemed annoyed with each other and they were only on the same side when it came to their kids. Their personal relationship became antagonistic and it was better for their whole family to divorce.”

Cavallari said; ‘With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce. We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of.

‘This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect or privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family.’
