British actor Idris Elba has announced that he’s tested positive for COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus.
In a tweet the actor says he feels okay and currently has no symptoms, but has been isolated since he found out that he may have been exposed to the virus.
“I got tested because I realised I got exposed to someone who had tested positive…I quarantined myself and got tested immediately.
“This morning I tested positive for COVID-19. I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus.”
“Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing. No panic.”
Elba also posted a video featuring his wife Sabrina Dhowre and said she has not been tested and is “doing okay”.
“This is serious,” he said. “Now is the time to really think about social distancing, washing your hands.”
“Transparency is probably the best thing for this right now. If you’re feeling ill, or you feel like you should be tested, or if you’ve been exposed, do something about it.”
“We live in a divided world right now, we can all feel it. It’s been bullshit. But, now is the time for solidarity. Now is the time for thinking about each other.
“There are so many people whose lives have been affected, from those who have lost people they love, to people that don’t even have it and have lost their livelihoods.”
Health Secretary in the UK, Matt Hancock has now confirmed that 53 people have passed away after testing positive for the virus.
