Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty finally registers as a sex offender
Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty has finally registered as a sex offender in California following his high profile arrest by Feds last week Wednesday.
Last week Petty reportedly turned himself in and was duly detained in federal custody by U.S. Marshals on an indictment for failing to register as a sex offender.
The background to this offense was an ‘attempted first degree rape’ that took place in 1994 ‘when both he and the victim were 16,’ according to a previous report by USA Today.
Petty is now entered into the California Megan’s Law database which tracks sex offenders in the state. According to TMZ “He’s listed as 5’9″, 170lbs … and has a Bev Hills address.”
Prosecutors have since dropped all charges against him for failing to initially register.
Megan’s Law is the name for a federal law, and informal name for subsequent state laws, in the United States requiring law enforcement authorities to make information available to the public regarding registered sex offenders.
The laws were created in response to the murder of Megan Kanka. The seven-year-old was raped and murdered by her neighbor Jesse Timmendequas.
The case attracted national attention and subsequently that led to the creation of a database that enables every citizen to search for the identity and location of known sex offenders so that members of the public can better protect themselves and their families.
The California Sex and Arson Registry (CSAR) is provided to local law enforcement agencies by the sex offender during the registration process.
