Doja Cat’s mother, Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer, has claimed that her brother frequently leaves her with “cuts and bruises” and once knocked out her teeth after a particularly brutal assault.
Sawyer revealed this as she sought a restraining order against 30-year-old son Raman Dalithando Dlamini.
In a legal filing seen by TMZ, Sawyer claimed that not only was Raman physically abusive he had also stolen some property from the Say So hitmaker.
The judge granted Doja’s mom court-ordered protection from Raman pending a hearing for a permanent restraining order, but did not grant that same protection for Doja Cat — instead, saying the musician would need to file her own request for a restraining order.
Both Doja Cat’s parents have artistic backgrounds, with her mother being a painter and clothing designer and her South African father, Dumisani Dlamini, being an actor and dancer who notably appeared in Sarafina!
In a past interview with Rolling Stone, Doja revealed that she and Raman had suffered racist abuse growing up.
“I looked different. My hair was different,” she told the publication. “People were very racist and very rude and unhinged and weird.”
