R Kelly was rescued by fellow inmates when another prisoner tried to stab him with an ink pen, a filing by the disgraced singer’s legal team has revealed.

A federal detainee with “f— the feds” tattooed on his face got into R. Kelly’s cell while the singer was sleeping and stomped on his head repeatedly while wielded an ink pen with which he wanted to stab Kelly. Before he could carry out the act, he was stopped by other inmates at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.

The attack, which occurred last Wednesday, has precipitated another bail application by Kelly’s legal team, which now proposes the artist lives in an apartment with his girlfriend close to the courthouse and with electronic monitoring.

“This is an inmate that never should have been anywhere near Mr. Kelly, an individual who is charged with the most violent of crimes, and one who plainly has no respect for the rules, he has the phrase ‘Fu** The Feds’ tattooed on his face,” Kelly’s lawyer Steven Greenberg said in the motion requesting the singer’s release on bail.

The self proclaimed Pied Piper of R’n’B is now held in solitary confinement.

Kelly’s attacker was angry at the constant protests calling for the singer’s release, which led to prison authorities putting a stop to outside visits for inmates.

“To-date, there have been at least a half-dozen of these displays of support outside of the MCC, always peaceful,” the attorney wrote in the motion.

“These unnecessary institutional lockdowns have needlessly promoted animosity towards Mr. Kelly. Notably, the institution does not go into lockdown during other, violent, downtown protests or during citywide looting.”
