Staff working for the Ellen Degeneres Show first complained about workplace abuse in 2018, new details about the ongoing saga have shown.

The Ellen Degeneres Show is currently under internal investigation after several staff members came forward with tales of a toxic workplace characterized by racial abuse and bullying.

According to the latest allegations, some staff said they were fired for taking medical leave or bereavement days to attend family funerals, with one employee saying that they returned to work after taking medical leave following a suicide attempt to be told that their role had been eliminated.

A Warner Bros boss however, dismissed the latest revelations, saying nothing new that had been unearthed.

“It was investigated by an outside investigator and resolved with no merit to claims of gender discrimination. As previously stated, we are committed to changing the things that need to change and moving forward in a constructive and positive way.”

Three of the show’s executive producers, Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly and Andy Lassner have previously stated that the show has always “strived to create an open, safe, and inclusive work environment,” adding that “we need to do better, are committed to do better, and we will do better.”

Glavin has since been fired during the course of the investigation.

According to Buzzfeed, David McGuire, executive vice president of programming at Warner Bros told employees that the investigation into the toxic work environment around the show was nearing its zenith.

“This should’ve never happened to begin with. It should’ve never gotten to the point where these people were unchecked and had that kind of power,” one former employee said.

“It starts at the top. It starts with Ellen, it starts with Warner Bros., and the culture they create and the culture they allow,” the spokesperson.
