Naya Rivera: Glee star likely drowned in tragic accident, police say
Glee star Naya Rivera is believed to have drowned in a “tragic accident” while boating with her young son on a lake in California, police say.
The 33-year-old was reported missing on Wednesday afternoon when her boat was seen drifting at Lake Piru, north-west of Los Angeles.
The child had told officials at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office that his mother had gone swimming but had not come back. Search for Rivera, officials said, would not be easy.
“There’s a lot of challenges in a reservoir this size, at times with visibility,” sheriff’s Capt. Eric Buschow said in a new conference . “I don’t have details yet as to the depth of the area where the boat was found or what conditions they’re encountering out there.”
Her drowning, given the length of time she had disappeared for, was now a strong possibility.
“We hope for the best, we prepare for the worst,” Deputy Chris Dyer said .
Rivera is best known for playing cheerleader Santana Lopez in Glee, the hugely popular musical comedy TV series that ran on the Fox network from 2009 to 2015.
She began her career as a child actress and model, appearing in TV commercials in the US.
As a four-year-old she starred in the Royal Family sitcom, and had a number of other TV appearances before her career defining role as the mean Santana Lopez in Glee.
