Blue Ivy Carter, Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s 8-year-old daughter, is seemingly following the footsteps of her illustrious parents after she grabbed a BET award for her guest appearance on Brown Skin Girl.
The song, which also features WizKid and SAINt JHN, was originally featured on The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack album.
The 2020 BET Awards, hosted by Amanda Seales, aired live on ViacomCBS’ networks including BET and BET HER on June 28 at 8 p.m.
Blue Ivy’s triumph makes her the youngest award winner in the ceremony’s history.
Presenting the award, host Erica Ash said, “the songs in this category are as inspiring as they are empowering. Their themes speak to the bet Her audience—plus they made us bop a little bit too.”
Tina Lawson, Blue Ivy’s grandmother, took to Instagram to congratulate her on the record setting honour.
“Congratulations BLUE IVY on your NAACP award last night for singing and writing on ‘Brown Skin Girl’ from the Album The Gift. ????????????????The youngest artist to win a major award????????????????Grandma is soo proud of you❤️❤️❤️ 8 years old!!!!????????❤️ You are giving all the beautiful little brown girls a voice ❤️,” she wrote.
The song, which features lyrics celebrating the natural beauty of Black and Brown girls, first received awards at the 51st NAACP Image Awards back in February. Daily Mast
