Social media sensation Siya Kakkar has died at the age of 16 after committing suicide at her New Delhi residence.
Kakkar, a bubbly teenager who had nearly 2 million followers on TikTok as of Friday and over 100k fans on Instagram, attained fame for her dance videos, the last of which was posted hours before her body was found.
According to her manager Arjun Sarin, there had been no indication that Kakkar had any problems that might lead to something as grave as suicide.
“I had a word with her last night for a new project and she sounded normal,” Sarin said in a statement. “This must be due to something personal — work wise she was doing well.”
According to India Today, Sarin’s phone has since been taken by police as they attempt to piece together her last few hours alive.
While her postmortem has been done, the police said no suicide note had been found.
“Siya died by suicide at her residence in New Delhi at around 9pm on June 25. She lived with her family. Her family is in shock and has requested privacy. No suicide note has been recovered,” the DCP told India Today Television.
