Sean “Diddy” Combs’ projected release from federal prison has reportedly been delayed by nearly six weeks amid allegations that he had access to contraband and special treatment behind bars.
Federal Bureau of Prisons records now list 2 March 2028 as the music mogul’s projected release date from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, according to reports. The date had previously been listed as 21 January 2028, adding 41 days to his expected stay.
However, prison officials have not confirmed why the date changed or whether it is connected to the recent allegations.
Alleged contraband and prison privileges
The adjustment follows an NBC News investigation alleging that Combs had access to a prohibited mobile phone and a modified tablet while serving his sentence.
Sources cited in the report claimed he used the devices to browse social media and view photographs sent by a former girlfriend. Combs was also accused of having access to premium alcohol and prescription medication.
Other allegations suggested that fellow prisoners cooked and cleaned for him and provided massages. None of those claims has been established through a public disciplinary ruling.
A representative for Combs pushed back against the coverage, arguing that ordinary details about his life in prison were being sensationalised.
“The only real news is that Sean continues to serve his sentence within the rules and he patiently awaits the court’s decision on his appeal,” the representative said.
Reports claim Combs was subsequently placed in solitary confinement, formally known as a special housing unit, after the allegations emerged. The Bureau of Prisons has declined to discuss his conditions or explain the release-date change, citing privacy and security concerns.
Release date has changed repeatedly
Combs’ projected release date has reportedly been adjusted several times since he began serving his sentence.
Such dates are estimates rather than guarantees. They can change because of sentence calculations, good-conduct credits, disciplinary penalties, participation in prison programmes or decisions concerning placement in community confinement.
The timing of the latest adjustment has fuelled speculation that Combs may have lost good-conduct time over an alleged prison violation. However, neither the Bureau of Prisons nor his representatives have confirmed any connection.
The new date therefore does not mean that a court has extended his original sentence.
Why Diddy is in prison
Combs was convicted in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. A jury acquitted him of the more serious racketeering conspiracy and sex-trafficking charges.
He was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison in October 2025 before being transferred from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to the low-security Fort Dix facility.
Combs is appealing his conviction and sentence. His representative said he remains focused on serving his time and returning to his family.
