England midfielder Jude Bellingham has found himself at the centre of an unexpected family controversy after the mother of his girlfriend, influencer Ashlyn Castro, publicly accused her daughter of abandoning her while she struggles in homeless shelters in Los Angeles.
The dispute erupted online ahead of England’s World Cup opener against Croatia, with Castro’s mother, former model Tina Marie Young, using social media to air grievances against both her daughter and the Real Madrid star.
In a series of TikTok videos, the 61-year-old questioned Bellingham’s relationship with Castro and accused her daughter of leaving her without support.
“Who is this Jude Bellingham?” Young asked in one video. “You disobeyed your mum, lied about her, left her in shelters.”
She then addressed the England international directly, asking: “Who are you with my beautiful daughter, who has left her mum in shelters, lying about her? Who are you? Are you lying too?”
Young described difficult conditions in homeless accommodation, claiming she had experienced bedbugs, cockroaches and safety concerns while living in shelters.
The public criticism follows claims made by Castro, 28, who has previously alleged that her mother suffers from schizophrenia and has not taken prescribed medication for more than a decade.
Young strongly rejected those assertions, describing them as painful and untrue.
“It’s devastating that I have a family and a daughter that just continues to lie,” she said in another video recorded from a Los Angeles shelter.
The social media personality also appeared to respond to her daughter’s online image, saying she presents herself authentically without makeup or filters.
Bellingham, 22, and Castro have reportedly been together since January 2025. The influencer has built a substantial online following, with more than 646,000 followers on Instagram and a further 245,000 on TikTok, where she regularly documents her travels and lifestyle.
The couple have publicly expressed affection for one another, with Bellingham previously referring to Castro as “my love,” while she has described the footballer as one of the kindest and most hardworking people she has known.
However, relations between Castro and her mother appear deeply strained.
Young has repeatedly claimed that her daughter has cut off contact, writing on Instagram that she has received “not a call or nothing” from her.
Although Castro generally avoids discussing her private life, she previously addressed online speculation about her past relationships after becoming the subject of viral rumours. She denied claims linking her romantically to several celebrities, including actor Michael B. Jordan, and stated she had only had three boyfriends over the previous eight years.
She also rejected allegations that explicit content circulating online under her name belonged to her.
Despite the ongoing family conflict, Castro has spoken about her desire to support those living with mental illness. Last year, she revealed plans to establish a non-profit organisation aimed at helping people facing mental health challenges.
Meanwhile, Young says her life changed dramatically following a difficult divorce that eventually left her homeless. She has described herself as a born-again Christian and has publicly criticised her late former husband, whom she accused of abusive behaviour.
In another emotional social media post, Young claimed attempts had been made to portray her as mentally unstable and have her institutionalised, but said she remained determined to tell her side of the story.
She also defended her role as a parent, expressing hope that one day her daughter would recognise the care and support she had provided throughout her life.
The family dispute has unfolded publicly as Bellingham prepares to represent England on the world stage, bringing an intensely personal controversy into the spotlight just days before the start of the Three Lions’ World Cup campaign.
