Free agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been cleared by the NFL following an investigation into allegations made by his former private chef, ending months of uncertainty surrounding his future in the league.
The NFL informed Diggs on Friday that it had completed its review of the case and found insufficient evidence to conclude that he violated the league’s personal conduct policy.
The decision means the veteran receiver will not face any suspension or disciplinary action as he continues his search for a new team.
Diggs had been under scrutiny since allegations surfaced in December 2025. His former private chef, Jamila Adams, accused him of assault, battery and strangulation during an alleged dispute over payment.
According to reports, Adams claimed Diggs slapped and choked her during an incident on December 2, 2025. Diggs consistently denied the accusations.
The case went to trial earlier this year and concluded in May when a jury found Diggs not guilty of all charges. The trial lasted two days and featured testimony that attracted significant public attention.
Despite the legal proceedings hanging over him, Diggs continued playing throughout the season and remained a key contributor for the New England Patriots as they advanced to the Super Bowl before ultimately falling to the Seattle Seahawks.
Following the court verdict, Diggs’ attorney, Mitch Schuster, welcomed the outcome and maintained that his client had been wrongly accused.
“We have taken these allegations seriously from day one, and that’s exactly why we were eager for the facts to come to light through the legal process,” Schuster said after the acquittal.
“The evidence has shown what we’ve maintained from day one: Mr. Diggs was wrongly accused.”
The NFL’s decision could prove crucial for Diggs’ career prospects. Some teams were believed to be waiting for the league’s ruling before considering a move for the five-time Pro Bowl receiver.
The 32-year-old remains one of the most accomplished pass catchers available on the market. During the 2025 season, he recorded 1,013 receiving yards and four touchdowns, leading the Patriots in receiving as they reached the Super Bowl.
Diggs signed a three-year, $69 million contract with New England before the 2025 campaign but was released by the franchise in March as part of a cost-cutting move.
With both the criminal case and NFL investigation now behind him, the veteran receiver enters free agency without any disciplinary restrictions and could attract renewed interest from teams seeking an experienced offensive weapon ahead of the new season.
