Chris Brown has scored a legal win ahead of an upcoming civil trial stemming from allegations that a former housekeeper was seriously injured by one of his dogs.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, a judge ruled that jurors will not hear evidence relating to Brown’s 2009 assault case involving Rihanna when the lawsuit goes to trial.
The case was brought by Maria Avila, who claims she was attacked by a large dog named Hades while working at Brown’s Los Angeles home in 2020.
Avila alleges she suffered serious injuries after being mauled while taking out the trash on the property. She is seeking damages from the singer, arguing that he should be held responsible for the incident.
Brown has denied liability and has previously argued that Avila may have provoked the animal before the alleged attack occurred.
As both sides prepared for trial, a dispute emerged over what information should be presented to jurors.
Avila’s legal team reportedly wanted to introduce evidence relating to Brown’s highly publicized assault of Rihanna in 2009, arguing it should be considered as part of the broader case.
Brown’s attorneys objected, insisting the incident had no connection to the alleged dog attack and would unfairly prejudice jurors against their client.
The judge ultimately agreed with Brown’s argument and ruled that details relating to the Rihanna assault will be excluded from the trial.
The decision marks a significant victory for the singer’s legal team as they prepare to defend against the lawsuit.
The case remains ongoing, with both sides expected to present evidence regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged dog attack and whether Brown bears any legal responsibility for Avila’s injuries.
