Although doubts on whether he will run for president still linger, rapper Kanye West filed the necessary paperwork and paid the $35,000 required for filing on Wednesday afternoon, the deadline for a spot in Oklahoma’s Nov. 3 presidential ballot.
West was one of three independent candidates that filed on Wednesday, according to Oklahoma Board of Elections spokeswoman Misha Mohr.
Kanye, who in the past has spoken of his admiration of Donald Trump, announced on July 4 that he will be running for president , foreshadowing a showdown at the polls with the incumbent American president and former Vice President Joe Biden.
“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future,” he tweeted. “I am running for president of the United States!”

Despite endorsements from wife Kim Kardashian-West and Elon Musk, there have been doubts about whether West will indeed run four years earlier than he said he would do.
Kanye has missed the deadline in several states, with Wednesday’s filing coming only a day after Intelligencer quoted West adviser Steve Kramer as saying “he’s out.”
Requirements that candidates need to meet in order to appear on presidential election ballots vary by state.
In Oklahoma, where West successfully filed, candidates need to get 35,592 signatures or pay $35,000. In Colorado, where the deadline to file is 5 August, candidates must get 5,000 signatures, or pay $1,000.
