President Donald Trump has declared that Harry and Meghan ‘must pay’ for their own security protection now that the ex-royals are living in the US.
Trump took to his favourite social media platform Twitter, on Sunday and wrote;
“I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada.
“Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”
Starting this Wednesday the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer be working royals and there is pressure for them to cough up the $9.9million required for their security.
The couple recently chose to change their base in North America from Vancouver Island in Canada to LA in the USA. This means they will no longer benefit from the taxpayer funded arrangement that saw them protected by the Royal Mounted Police while in the country.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Prince Harry and Markle have to ask Trump’s approval if they want diplomatic protection while they are in America.
“Trump’s Secret Service agents look after the Queen and Prince Charles when they make official trips to the United States.
“However, Prince Harry and Markle have already left the royal family and are no longer considered “international protected person,” so the rules won’t apply to them.”
There is no love lost between Trump and the royal couple after they snubbed him on their wedding in 2018. Prince Harry is also very close with Barack and Michelle Obama.
In March this year Harry blasted Trump in a secretly recorded phone conversation, claiming the US President ‘has blood on his hands’ and is one of the ‘sick people’ running the world.
Meghan’s disdain for Trump is also well documented. Back in 2016 she stated;
‘I’m voting for Hillary Clinton, not because she is a woman, but because Trump has made it easy to see that you don’t really want that kind of world that he’s painting.’
