Body camera footage from the response to Perez Hilton’s August incident has been released. TMZ describes the incident as a suicide attempt.
The footage, obtained by TMZ, shows emergency crews attending to Hilton at his Miami home. TMZ reports that much of the video has been redacted and Hilton is blurred as responders place him on a stretcher and take him to an ambulance.
Police responded after livestream
The incident happened on 4 August, when authorities received calls about a livestream that appeared to show Hilton harming himself. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies went to his home, and he was taken to hospital for medical care.
The Sheriff’s Office said its crisis response unit and licensed mental health professionals were also supporting his family. Hilton’s family later said he spent weeks in hospital receiving treatment for physical injuries before entering a residential programme focused on his mental health and recovery.
Family shared recovery update
In an update posted on Hilton’s website on 29 September, his family said he had reconnected with his children and mother through video calls and short, supervised visits at the treatment facility. They did not give a timeline for his return home.
Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, became known for his celebrity gossip website and later worked as a television personality. He is a father of three.
His family has asked for privacy while he continues treatment and recovery.
