Soulja Boy has suggested that he could run for president of the United States in 2028, outlining four political issues that would form the basis of his potential campaign.

The “Crank That” rapper surprised followers on Saturday by sharing an Instagram post bearing the words “SOULJA BOY 2028.”

Although the announcement attracted considerable attention, Soulja Boy has not formally declared his candidacy or revealed which political party he would seek to represent.

Soulja Boy outlines potential political platform

In his post, the 36-year-old rapper identified economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education and the future of technology and artificial intelligence as his principal areas of interest.

“From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible,” he wrote.

Soulja Boy said he was exploring whether the vision that had shaped his career could also be applied to public service, describing the idea as a “new chapter” and a “bigger vision.”

However, he stopped short of presenting detailed policies or confirming that he had established a campaign organisation.

No formal presidential campaign announced

Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Way, has not announced a running mate, political affiliation or campaign team.

There is also no public indication that he has completed the formal steps required to establish a presidential campaign.

His post should therefore be treated as an expression of interest rather than confirmation that his name will appear on the 2028 ballot.

Soulja Boy has previously entered the political conversation through his involvement in events connected to President Donald Trump.

He performed at the Crypto Ball held during Trump’s 2025 inauguration festivities and later defended his participation amid criticism, saying he had accepted a well-paid performance opportunity.

‘SNL’ previously imagined Soulja Boy campaign

The prospect of Soulja Boy entering presidential politics has been the subject of comedy before.

In 2019, Saturday Night Live featured Chris Redd portraying the rapper during a sketch inspired by Soulja Boy’s viral interview with The Breakfast Club.

The sketch jokingly presented him as a potential presidential candidate years before his latest social media post.

Soulja Boy would not be the first rapper to pursue the presidency. Kanye West mounted an independent campaign in 2020, appearing on the ballot in several states but winning only a small share of the national vote.

Whether Soulja Boy’s announcement develops into a genuine campaign remains unclear. For now, “SOULJA BOY 2028” is a slogan and statement of interest rather than a formal bid for the White House.
