Jennifer Lopez has opened up about an unexpected aspect of her romantic tastes, admitting that some of Hollywood’s darkest love stories have long fascinated her.
The singer and actress made the candid remarks during an appearance on the podcast Films To Be Buried With, hosted by actor Brett Goldstein, who stars alongside her in the upcoming romantic comedy Office Romance.
During the conversation, Goldstein asked Lopez to name a film she found attractive or exciting in a way she felt she perhaps should not have. Her answer came instantly: the 1993 cult classic True Romance.
Rather than choosing a traditional romantic movie, Lopez singled out the Quentin Tarantino-written crime drama, which follows lovers Clarence Worley and Alabama Whitman as their relationship becomes entangled in violence, crime and chaos.
Discussing the film’s cast, Lopez praised performances from actors including Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Brad Pitt, Gary Oldman and James Gandolfini.
“I would have sex with any one of them,” Lopez joked, prompting laughter from Goldstein. She then reflected that the reaction perhaps revealed “the dark side” of her personality.
Lopez spoke in particular about the film’s intense emotional energy, including the famous confrontation involving Arquette’s character Alabama and Gandolfini’s mob enforcer Virgil. Despite the brutality of the scene, she said she found the character’s resilience and appeal compelling.
The conversation later shifted to another movie Lopez described as one of the most sensual films she has ever watched — the 1986 erotic thriller 9½ Weeks, starring Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger.
Lopez said she was captivated by the film’s complicated relationship dynamics, even though the romance portrayed was clearly unhealthy and emotionally destructive.
She explained that while viewers may want Basinger’s character to escape the relationship, she personally found herself drawn into the story and fascinated by its intensity.
The comments are consistent with Lopez’s previous reflections about love and relationships. Over the years, the actress has spoken publicly about difficult experiences in her personal life.
In her Amazon Prime documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Lopez revealed that although she had never experienced severe physical abuse, she had endured relationships that involved rough treatment and disrespect.
The star also discussed how childhood experiences influenced her search for affection and validation. Lopez previously said she often felt emotionally disconnected from her father while growing up and spent years seeking love and acceptance elsewhere.
However, she recently shared a deeply personal moment that helped change her perspective.
Lopez recalled watching the acclaimed Brazilian drama I’m Still Here with her father while she was recovering from the flu and coping with the aftermath of her split from Ben Affleck.
As she became emotional during the film, her father comforted her and reassured her of his love.
According to Lopez, hearing those words brought unexpected healing and helped her move beyond some of the relationship patterns that had shaped her life.
The revelations come during a period of transition for the global superstar. Lopez is balancing new film and music projects while adjusting to life after her divorce from Affleck and preparing for her twins, Max and Emme, to enter adulthood.
Meanwhile, Lopez was recently spotted in Paris, where she enjoyed a shopping trip and later attended a concert by DJ David Guetta.
