Tiger Woods remains in Switzerland undergoing rehabilitation following the March car crash that resulted in driving under the influence-related charges, even as his girlfriend Vanessa Trump continues to navigate her recent breast cancer diagnosis.

According to a source close to the golfing icon, Woods is expected to remain in Switzerland until at least the end of June as he continues a rehabilitation program that was originally planned to last three months.

The 50-year-old former world number one is reportedly focused on recovery while also preparing to deal with legal proceedings linked to the crash.

“The original plan was for Tiger to do a three-month rehab program, which should stay on target unless something major changes,” the source told PEOPLE.

Those close to Woods say the combination of physical recovery and looming legal challenges has created significant strain for the five-time Masters champion.

Despite the difficulties, Woods remains committed to making a return to competitive golf.

Sources say his recovery process includes improving pain management and maintaining a fitness regimen that could eventually allow him to resume playing at the highest level.

“I don’t know when it will be or how he will do it, but Tiger is determined to return,” the insider said. “He has to get his pain management going in the right direction and also be able to continue a fitness routine, which will help him do the best he can when seriously playing golf.”

Woods pleaded not guilty on March 31 to charges of driving under the influence and refusing to submit to a urine test, according to court documents previously obtained by PEOPLE.

His rehabilitation comes during a particularly challenging period in his personal life. Vanessa Trump recently disclosed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, prompting Woods to temporarily interrupt his treatment and travel back to Florida to support her.

A source previously told PEOPLE that Woods felt he needed to be by Vanessa’s side as she faced the diagnosis.

“He and Vanessa are close and share their lives. He needed to be with her and he was,” the source said. “They do what they can for the other in light of both of them having heavy schedules of responsibility.”

Another insider described the couple’s relationship as one built on mutual support, saying they have consistently been there for one another through difficult circumstances.

“Life brings unexpected twists and turns and so far both of them have been there to help the other,” the source said. “They are lucky to have found each other.”

Friends close to the pair have also emphasized the strong bond between them, suggesting that Woods and Vanessa have continued to lean on one another despite the pressures created by health concerns and legal challenges.

Vanessa shares five children with her former husband, Donald Trump Jr. — Kai, 19, Donald III, 17, Tristan, 14, Spencer, 13, and Chloe, 11. Woods is father to daughter Sam, 18, and son Charlie, 17, whom he shares with former wife Elin Nordegren.

As Woods continues his rehabilitation overseas, his focus remains on recovery, supporting Vanessa through her health battle, and eventually finding a path back to the sport that made him one of golf’s greatest stars.
