The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, reportedly skipped a visit to the ailing King Charles alongside her husband, as she wanted to avoid any awkwardness resulting from the feud pitting them against other members of the royal family.

The Duke Prince Harry reportedly made the transatlantic trip to the UK alone, meeting his father at Clarence House in London on February 6.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a complicated relationship with other members of the royal family, after a string of allegations they made about the treatment they had received prior to and after their union.

Speaking to The Mirror, relationship expert Louella Alderson said Meghan had not wanted to make Harry’s meeting with her father controversial.

“…Meghan hasn’t had the best relationship with the Royal Family throughout her time with Harry, which seems to have only gotten worse since their departure from the UK and all of their comments to the media.”

Alderson added, “It’s understandable that she may not feel comfortable or want to be in a situation where she has to interact with them during such a difficult time.”

Alderson said given the prevailing tensions in the royal household, it would have been unwise for Meghan to tag along with her husband.

“Meghan’s choice not to attend is likely more about not wanting to be in a potentially uncomfortable situation with the royal family and distract from the main focus: King Charles’s health.”
