US rapper Silento best known for his hit song Watch Me Whip/Nae Nae, has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly shooting his cousin.

Born Richard Hawk, Silento was arrested for the murder of his 34-year-old cousin Fredrick Rooks.

In January the DeKalb County Police Department released a statement that they were investigating the death of Rooks after finding him dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

An Atlanta news outlet has reported that the rapper is being held in custody without bond. It is not clear if Silento has retained an attorney who can speak on his behalf.

This is not the first time he has found himself on the wrong side of the law. In September 2020 he was charged with assault after he allegedly attacked two strangers with a hatchet.

The 23-year-old rapper rose to fame in May of 2015 after releasing his debut song “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” which became an instant global hit.
