Singer August Alsina has claimed he had a years-long love affair with actress Jada Pinkett Smith and said that her husband Will Smith gave his blessing.
In an interview with the Breakfast Club’s Angela Yee, Alsina seemed to confirm long held rumours that Will and Jada were in an open relationship, something that the power couple has denied in the past.
“I actually sat down with Will [Smith] and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership,” he said. “He gave me his blessing.”
Alsina, who got to know Jada through her son Jaden, said that he had no regrets about their relationship as he had been truly in love with the actress.
“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really, deeply loved and have a ton of love for her,” he said.
“I devoted myself to it. I gave my full self to it. So much so that I can die right now, and be OK knowing that I fully gave myself to somebody … Some people never get that in this lifetime.”
The fallout from the end of the relationship, he claimed, had left him down and out.
“It almost killed me. Not almost. It did—it pushed me into being another person,” he said.
“It broke me down … It probably will be the hardest thing I ever had to experience in this lifetime.”
Alsina, who is on a promotional run for his latest album, The Product II:stateofEMERGEncy, said contrary to popular belief he was not a troublemaker and was only coming out now because people had the mistaken belief that he had interfered in the Smiths’ marriage.
“Contrary to what people may believe, I am not a troublemaker. I don’t like drama. Drama actually makes me nauseous.
“And I also don’t think that it is ever important for people to know what I do, who I sleep with, who I date … but in this instance it is very different because as I said, there are so many people that are sid-eyeing me, looking at me questionable [sic].
“I have lost money, friendships, relationships behind it and I think it is because people don’t necessarily know the truth. But I have never done anything wrong.”
Alsina’s allegations have been denied by a representative of Jada who told Page Six that the singer’s claims were “Absolutely not true!!”
Representatives for Pinkett-Smith have meanwhile told the New York Post that Alsina’s claims are “absolutely not true”. Daily Mast
