Stormzy surprises crowds as he joins Black Lives Matter protest in London

Braving the cold as he wore a black vest, rapper Stormzy surprised fans when joined protesters at a Black Lives Matter march in London on Sunday.

Stormzy, accompanied by friends, became the latest A-list celebrity to join the protests against police brutality.

Others include pop sensation Madonna, Star Wars actor John Boyega and Rio and Kate Ferdinand.

The protests which have left a trail of destruction come after George Floyd was killed when a white police officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes.

Protests began in the US last week following his tragic death, and have spread across the globe as people fight for justice.

The grime artist has spoken strongly about race in the past and last year famously claimed British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had emboldened people to adopt aggressive racist attitudes towards people of color.

“If the top person can openly say this racist thing – the ‘piccaninnies’ remarks, ‘watermelon smiles’, comparing Muslim women to a letter box – if that is our figurehead, the top man, the leader we have to follow, and he openly says these things, he encourages hate among others,” he said at the time.
