Kanye West generated $29.8 million from two sold-out homecoming concerts in Chicago, underlining his continuing commercial appeal despite years of damaging public controversy.
The rapper, who is now legally known as Ye, sold a combined 129,562 tickets for his performances at Soldier Field on 3 and 4 September, according to figures reported by live-entertainment publication Pollstar.
The second concert alone reportedly grossed $15.76 million, setting a new single-night box-office record at Soldier Field and surpassing the previous benchmark associated with Beyoncé.
Sold-out shows attract major hip-hop stars
The concerts marked Ye’s first performances in his hometown since 2021 and formed part of his gradual return to major American stages.
He performed music spanning his career, including Jesus Walks, Gold Digger, Stronger, Power, Heartless, Ghost Town and Runaway.
Both shows also featured a succession of prominent guest performers.
Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Future and Chicago rapper Twista appeared during the first night. The second show brought out Chief Keef, Young Thug, Common, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, GLC, Consequence, Lupe Fiasco, Rick Ross and CyHi.
Kid Cudi also joined Ye on stage despite the pair’s sometimes strained relationship. They performed Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1, Ghost Town and Cudi’s Pursuit of Happiness.
The second concert reportedly lasted about three hours and featured 59 songs.
Ye breaks Soldier Field box-office record
Pollstar described the two-night engagement as a box-office record for Soldier Field.
Ye’s $29.8 million gross was generated from 129,562 reported ticket sales, with the second night contributing a record $15.76 million.
Beyoncé previously earned $42.52 million from three sold-out Cowboy Carter Tour concerts at Soldier Field in May 2025, attended by 143,256 people.
While her three-night total remains higher than Ye’s two-show gross, his second performance reportedly established a new record for a single concert at the Chicago stadium.
The figures demonstrate that Ye can still attract stadium-sized audiences, particularly in Chicago, where he was raised and launched the career that made him one of hip-hop’s most influential performers.
Commercial success follows years of controversy
The concerts came during an attempted public and professional comeback following widespread condemnation of Ye’s antisemitic statements.
He first faced major backlash in 2022 after making repeated antisemitic remarks and publicly praising Adolf Hitler during an appearance on Alex Jones’s programme.
His behaviour resulted in the collapse of lucrative commercial relationships, including his highly profitable partnership with Adidas.
Further controversy followed in 2025 when he again praised Hitler, identified himself as a Nazi, sold a T-shirt carrying a swastika and released a song originally titled Heil Hitler. The track was subsequently removed or restricted by major streaming platforms.
Several planned international performances were later cancelled amid opposition to his appearances and concerns about his record of antisemitism.
Apology divides public opinion
In January 2026, Ye published a full-page apology in The Wall Street Journal, expressing regret for his behaviour and denying that he was a Nazi or antisemite.
He attributed his conduct to mental-health difficulties, including bipolar disorder and neurological damage that he said resulted from his 2002 car crash. Ye acknowledged that his condition did not excuse the harm he had caused and pledged to pursue treatment, accountability and meaningful change.
His return to sold-out stadium performances has nevertheless renewed debate about whether audiences can separate an artist’s work from their conduct.
The Chicago ticket figures indicate that a substantial section of Ye’s audience remains willing to support his music. However, the success of the concerts does not erase the continuing criticism or scepticism surrounding his public apology and attempted rehabilitation.
