Outspoken rapper 50 Cent has weighed in on the Grammys row, dubbing the organisers of the event as being “out of touch”. Expressing his dissatisfaction on the nominations for Best Rap Album he said, ” Best Rap album. They out of touch this shit ain’t it, get the f**ck outta here.”
His since deleted comment which was accompanied by a number of grinning emojis could be due to the omission for late rapper Pop Smoke’s debut album ‘Shoot for Stars, Aim for the Moon,’ which he produced with Steven Victor and Rico Beats.
Regardless of the omission that got fiddy furious Pop was nominated for Best Rap performance.
“If it’s recognized it will only be because he’s gone. The content is similar to what I would do. They didn’t recognize mine. They gave me Grammys when I was with Em, when I’m on records with Eminem. Other than that they’re afraid to give me Grammy’s because they think it’s teaching the audience to want to be like Pop and to be like him is to be part of gang culture.”
“Who you see get Grammys that is making drill music? You mean to tell me ain’t none of those songs worthy of it?” said 50 Cent in an interview with Spotify.
Those nominated included D Smoke for ‘Black Habits’, Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist’s album ‘Alfredo’, ‘A Written Testimony’ by Jay Electronica, Nas‘ ‘King’s Disease’ and Royce Da 5’9″‘s ‘The Allegory’.
Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd and Justin Bieber have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the Recording Academy over their snub or being angry at the categories they’re into.
The Weekend who has had a great 2020 with one of the most listened albums, ‘After Hours’ has called out the Grammys for not receiving a nomination for his album.
