Kelly Clarkson has subtly responded to a lawsuit brought on by her father-in-law’s company, posting a picture of Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus in the The Matrix as a sign of defiance.

The lawsuit was filed by Clarkson’s estranged husband Brandon Blackstock’s father, whose company, Starstruck Management Group, has managed her for 13 years.

Starstruck filed the claim alleging that Kelly owes them $1.4 million in unpaid commissions. These commissions are reportedly from Kelly’s earning as host of The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Voice.

“Over the course of approximately 13 years, Starstruck developed Clarkson into a mega superstar,” the complaint seen by Variety states.

“By way of example only, Starstruck was instrumental in helping Clarkson achieve success in terms of numerous hit albums, multiple Grammy wins and nominations, her role on popular television shows like ‘The Voice’ and her own talk show. Despite Starstruck’s hard work and dedication, Clarkson has decided she is going to stop paying Starstruck for what is contractually owed.”

Clarkson and Blackstock were married in 2013 and in the aftermath of their breakup earlier this year, the singer has stated that 2020 has been a year of change for her.

“2020 has brought a lot of change also to my personal life. Definitely didn’t see anything coming that came.”

“What I’m dealing with is hard because it involves more than just my heart,” she said. “It involves a lot of little hearts. We have four kids. And divorce is never easy. And we’re both from divorced families so we know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts.”
