A video of another vicious workout by Mike Tyson ended with a declaration by the former heavyweight champion that he is back.
Talk of Iron Mike’s return to boxing has been upped a notch in a recent weeks, with the retired pugilist looking in prime form whenever he is captured on video working out.
“I’m back,” Tyson, sporting a gray beard, declares at the end of the latest video. The videos have fueled speculation that the 53 year old could be close to a return to the ring.
“The power is different level,” said Rafael Cordeiro, the trainer who has appeared with Tyson in the videos. “I didn’t expect to see what I saw – I saw a guy with the same speed, the same power as a guy who is 21-, 22-years-old.”
According to The Sun, Tyson would consider a return to the ring if he was matched up with another bonafide fighter.
“Mike has ruled out the prospect of the exhibition bout in Australia because he does not want to fight a cross-over athlete,” a source told the paper.
“If Mike returns to boxing, it will only be to fight another bona fide boxer. Mike believes anything else would be an insult to the sport.”
Evander Holyfield, Tyson’s erstwhile rival who is set to make his own comeback for charity, has also said he wouldn’t mind another scrap with the self proclaimed baddest man on the planet.
“It wouldn’t bother me to do so. Even though I’m four years older than him, it wouldn’t be a problem,” Holyfield said.
While the world might be excited at the return of Mike Tyson to the ring, the idea has been shot down by 5 Live Boxing’s Steve Bunce.
“There are probably hundreds of men above 14 stone that are boxing around the world that would easily beat Tyson now,” he said.
“That’s the truth. Unless he fights another 53-year-old where they are both walking through treacle, after a minute it will be horrible.” Daily Mast
